A Pastoral Note from Bishop Ronald Hicks

Dear Friends,

Peace be with you.

For more than a week, we have seen a great deal of media coverage and sent out communications about the issues concerning Jeremy Hylka, who taught in one of our Catholic schools and served as a youth minister for two of our parishes until he was terminated on April 28. This has been a sad and challenging time for everyone involved.

We must now look for ways to heal as a Christian community as we remain diligent in our commitment to protecting children.

As a diocese, we will continue to follow our process and procedures regarding sexual misconduct involving minors; cooperate with authorities; and respond pastorally to anyone involved or affected by the current situation, especially any possible victims.

During these days, know that I am praying for you, as we lean even closer into Christ and ask him to send us his gift of healing and light.

Peace,

Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks
Bishop of Joliet
